Legal i Services Ltd is a data controller registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) under registration number ZA#######. We are committed to protecting the privacy and security of your personal information. This privacy policy describes how we collect, use and share information about you when you use our website, instruct us as clients or otherwise interact with us as a prospective client, supplier or contact.
If we provide you with immigration advice or casework services, additional information about how we handle your data is contained in our Client Care Letter and in any Data Protection Impact Assessments we carry out for specific types of work. This policy should be read alongside those documents.
What Information We Collect
The categories of personal information we may collect about you include your name, contact details (including address, telephone numbers and email addresses), date and country of birth, nationality, immigration history and immigration status, copies of identity documents (including passports and biometric residence permits), financial information for maintenance and fee waiver applications, information about family members included in your application, any information about your health where it is relevant to your application, and correspondence with the Home Office and other third parties and any notes we make about your case.
We also collect limited information automatically when you visit our website, including your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring website, pages you viewed and the dates and times of access. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies.
How We Use Your Information
We use information we hold about you to provide the immigration advice and services you have instructed us for, to administer and manage our relationship with you, to process your case and liaise with the Home Office and other bodies on your behalf, to send you communications about the progress of your matter, to comply with our legal and regulatory obligations (including to the IAA, HMRC and Companies House), to keep our records up to date and to carry out our own business administration including quality assurance and complaints handling.
We will only send you marketing emails or other marketing communications about services similar to those we provide only where you have asked us to, or where we are otherwise lawfully able to do so. You have the right to opt out of receiving marketing communications at any time by contacting us.
Sharing and Retention
We will only share your information with third parties where it is necessary for the purpose for which we collected it, including the Home Office, UKVI, visa application centres, other government bodies, interpreters and translators, expert witnesses and medical experts (with your consent or as required by law, or to our professional advisers, insurers and auditors, and IT and other professional service providers.
We retain your case file for a minimum of 7 years after the conclusion of your matter or such longer period as may be required by our regulators, applicable law or a relevant professional standards. Website analytics data is retained for a maximum of 26 months unless a longer period is required for legitimate business or legal purposes.
Your Rights
Under data protection law you have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you, to request that inaccurate personal data be rectified, to request that we erase personal data in certain circumstances, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability where applicable, and to withdraw any consent you have given to our use of your information at any time.
