Sponsor Licences

Guidance for employers on sponsor licence applications, supporting docs and compliance.

If you are an employer in the United Kingdom wishing to recruit non-EEA workers from overseas or to transfer existing staff into the UK from a global business, you will almost certainly need a sponsor licence issued by the Home Office under the Worker or Temporary Worker routes.

Applying for a sponsor licence is not a straightforward registration exercise. The Home Office will assess whether you are a genuine, trading organisation, whether you have appropriate HR systems in place to monitor sponsored employees, whether you have no relevant unspent convictions or previous immigration enforcement history, and whether the roles you genuinely need to fill cannot be filled from the settled workforce.

Our sponsor licence service supports you from pre-application systems readiness, through the submission of the online application and supporting documents, and on into post-licence training and ongoing compliance advice — so that you are not only granted a licence but you are also confident in how to use it correctly on a day-to-day basis.

For businesses that already hold a licence and have been selected for audit or have received a compliance action letter from the Home Office, we also provide urgent support with case preparation, response drafting, representation at in-person interviews and — if the worst happens — representation in any civil penalty or licence revocation proceedings.

Level 1 Scope Notice

All advice and assistance is provided within Legal i Services Ltd's IAA Level 1 authorisation in Immigration, Asylum and Protection. Sponsor licence matters are advised within the scope of that authorisation, and where a matter requires higher-level work, clients will be advised and referred appropriately.

Ongoing Compliance Help

For businesses that already hold a licence and have been selected for audit or received a compliance action letter from the Home Office, we provide urgent support with case preparation, response drafting and representation at in-person interviews, as well as advice if a licence is under threat of revocation.
